JOB DESCRIPTION
FAMILY DEVELOPMENT SPECIALIST
32+ hours/week

 

ACCOUNTABLE TO:

The Executive Director. Job performance evaluation will occur following a twelve month probationary period and on an annual basis thereafter.

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Facilitate the visitation component of the reunification plan based on the 050 referral received from the Child Protection Specialist; empowering parents to plan successful visits with their children

  2. Provide in-home services to families referred by the Child Protection Specialist on the 050 referral form to include:  assessments, development of a Family Action Plan, weekly in-home visits, transportation, correspondence, individualized parenting information, and follow-up.

  3. Working knowledge of parent-child interaction and child development and the dynamics of child abuse and neglect; demonstrates beginning level skills in utilizing these materials.

  4. Meets with Butte 4-C's In-Home Services staff on a weekly basis to evaluate client status.

  5. Monitors visits and reports objective observations.

  6. Available to supervise visits and provide in-home services Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 am and 8:00 pm.

  7. Attends regular staff meetings, program meetings, Family Engagement Meetings, case conferences, in-service trainings and other staff meetings as required.  Attends monthly meetings with Child Protection Specialists and Supervisors.

  8. Demonstrates ability to work as part of a team.

  9. Demonstrates ability to work independently during in-home visits and supervised visits.

  10. Is able to manage assigned caseload and related work responsibilities.

  11. Consistently follows agency and contract policies and procedures.

  12. Must keep all information concerning clients confidential.

  13. Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director in a timely manner.

  14. Demonstrates competence in written English; records pertinent information related to client observations and actions and worker interventions in a complete and concise manner.

  15. Available to provide transportation for self to provide in-home services and for children and parents both to and from visits as determined on an individualized basis.  Substantial travel will be required from Butte to Anaconda and Deer Lodge.  Must have reliable vehicle and clean driving record.

 

SPECIFICATION:

  • Two (2) year degree in human services, child development or related field from an accredited institution or 2-3 years experience providing direct services to families.

 

EXPERIENCE:

  • Knowledge of cultural differences and knowledge regarding issues impacting low income families.

  • Must have excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing.

  • Computer skills to include word processing and data entry.

 

DESIRABLE PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Demonstrates maturity and experience in successfully working with parents and young children.

  • Able to identify a crisis situation and respond accordingly.

  • Basic knowledge of nurturing parenting techniques, child development, and stress management skills.

 

GENERAL:

  • In-town and out-of-town travel to include over-night travel may be required to perform the responsibilities of this position.  The employee is to provide a mode of transportation for this travel.  Some travel may be required during inclement weather.  Mileage reimbursement is provided.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. 

  • Must be able to lift 50lbs.

  • Must be able to help children in and out of vehicles and properly use vehicle safety restraints.

    • This position requires training in car seat installation. The Butte 4-C’s will provide this training.

 

The noise level in this environment is quiet to loud depending upon the activity in the particular part of the day.
